David Sangster, manager of the Wild Blueberry Producers Association of Nova Scotia, said wild blueberry harvesting began in western areas of the province last week (Aug. 3), while growers in Colchester and Cumberland started on Monday (Aug. 9).
"Pictou County growers should be starting by the end of the week," he said, adding berries in this region need a few more days to ripen on the low bush plants before they are ready to be picked.
Sangster said growers across the province are looking forward to a good quality, average crop of about 30 million pounds or more if weather conditions co-operate during the harvest.
