A member of the Countryside 4-H Club, Briggs has been involved in the 4-H dairy project for seven years. She has held executive positions in her local club and participated in dairy clipping workshops.
The Atlantic 4-H delegation includes Briggs as well as Bridget Wilson from Nova Scotia and Joel Jewell and Ben Strehler from Prince Edward Island. The chaperone this year is Mary Ann Drummond from NB who is a volunteer leader with the Kings County Beef 4-H Club. She has been involved in the 4-H Program in NB for years both as a member and a leader.
The 2010 National 4-H Dairy Conference will run from Sept. 26-30 and will provide 4-H members with an opportunity to see the world’s best dairy cattle side-by-side with one of the largest dairy technology and product shows. The four-day experience will expose 4-H dairy members to new science technology and dairy-related careers. Through a combination of workshops, speakers, educational field trips and networking with other dairy-orientated youth, 4-H members will gain information they can use to strengthen their future in the industry in the Atlantic region. Hands-on learning workshop topics include biotechnology, genetics, foods evaluation, animal nutrition and marketing.
More than 6,800 dairy producers and agribusiness representatives will participate in the 2010 World Dairy Expo. The Atlantic delegation will see the latest technology, have a chance to view the world’s finest dairy cattle competing in seven breed shows, and exchange ideas with more than 3000 international buyers of cattle, products and services.
The Dairy Farmers of New Brunswick provided financial support to help the delegation attend the dairy conference.
