The New Brunswick government plans to shut down 15 illegal deer farms in the province that contain over 140 white-tailed deer.

Natural Resources Minister Bruce Northrupt said Jan. 19 that the farms have existed for years and he did not know why previous governments had overlooked them.

The industry received media exposure last October when 55-year-old Donald Dube was killed during rutting season by his dominant herd buck.
