Police say the single-vehicle crash happened just before 8:30 p.m. on Monday (July 16) near Exit 4C.

The truck had gone into a ditch and remained upright, with the driver escaping injury.

However, for some of the close to 160 pigs on the truck, the news wasn’t as good.

Halifax RCMP spokesman Cpl. Scott MacRae said a few of the pigs died due to the impact of the crash, and the stress of the situation.

It took several hours to move the pigs to another trailer as the truck was towed away.
