Nova Scotia is amending legislation to allow individuals to directly import 100 per cent certified locally grown and produced Canadian wine for personal use.

A federal prohibition on the individual importation of wine was lifted in June.

The amendments are the result of consultations with Nova Scotia's wine industry and Finance Minister Maureen MacDonald says that she will encourage her provincial and territorial counterparts to make similar changes to their legislation.

Nova Scotia is among the first to respond to the federal bill and remove provincial barriers.
