TRURO - A peacock and his hen are missing in the McClures Mills area.

The peacock was spooked by the family’s dog on Sunday as she popped out of playing in the snow. Free ranging in the family’s fenced-in yard, the peacock flew into a tree just outside the yard, with the hen following.

The peacock and hen stayed there overnight, and when he came down from the tree, flew in the opposite direction. He was last seen Monday morning near the Nova Institution for Women on James Street, and because of the peacock’s dislike of snow, may stay in the trees until finding a clean spot to land.

He may be easier to spot with his two-foot tail and dark colours, while she is lighter in colour, however doesn’t stray far from the peacock.

It’s not recommended anyone attempt to capture the peacock and hen due to their long, sharp talons and fact they will peck, so anyone spotting the animals is asked to call 902-897-0318.
