Brenda Leenders, who attends Truro's Immanuel Baptist Church, replaces Rev. Randy Crozsman who served in the position for the past five years.
In her new volunteer position, Leenders, who is employed by the Colchester East Hants Health Authority, will encourage and provide support for people in the province who raise funds for the foodgrains bank and help raise awareness about global hunger issues.
Last year, Leenders helped organize the Foodgrains Bank's Atlantic Food Justice Camp and participated in the Foodgrains Bank Food Study Tour to Haiti. She is a founding member of Harvest for Hunger Nova Scotia, a community project that raised funds for the Foodgrains Bank through the Aug. 19 Incredible Picnic at Masstown Market.
"We welcome Brenda's energy, experience and enthusiasm for the work of ending global hunger," said John Longhurst, who directs resources and public engagement for the foodgrains bank.
"Her involvement in public health and nutrition, food and farming issues, and her broad connections in the church and community in Nova Scotia, will be a tremendous asset for the Foodgrains Bank."
