A forest fire near Bonavista, Newfoundland & Labrador was extinguished by a water bomber on Sunday afternoon, June 24.

A firefighting crew is in Bonavista today (June 25) extinguishing hot spots left from a forest fire that was doused by a water bomber Sunday afternoon (June 24) in an area between Bonavista and Elliston.

The RCMP and the Bonavista Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire and subsequently contacted the forestry services branch of the Department of Natural Resources.

A water bomber was flown in from Gander to extinguish the blaze.

It is expected that the firefighting crew will be in the area for the next two-three days to contain what is left of the fire.
