[Amherst, NS]– Remote woodlots are getting a hand from the provincial (Nova Scotia) government in the form of funding for new roads.

The province has set aside $1 million for private woodlot owners to build roads to their woodlots so they can be harvested or maintained easier.

It’s a wise choice for funding, said Ian Ripley, general manager at Athol Forestry Cooperative.

“It’s going to provide easier access, so it’s well accepted. It’s nice to see them trying to step by step make a difference.”

For more info about eligibility for funding and applications go to the Department of Natural Resources website at www.gov.ns.ca/natr/woodlot.
