Mother of Nova Scotia's Natural Resources Minister dies after crash

[Central West River, NS]– The woman who died in a single vehicle crash Tuesday (July 24) was the mother of (Nova Scotia) Natural Resources Minister Charlie Parker, according to his Pictou West constituency office.

Grace Parker died shortly after being transported to the Aberdeen Hospital from injuries she received after her car left the highway Tuesday and plunged down a steep embankment, striking a culvert.

Police and emergency medical personnel were called to the scene of the single-vehicle crash near Central West River at about 1 p.m. Firefighters used extraction equipment to remove the woman from the Chevrolet Malibu she was driving.

She was rushed to Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow in critical condition.

Parker was in her 80s. Two of Parker's other sons, David and Robert, are both councillors with the Municipality of Pictou County.

Police are investigating the incident.
