Farm: Hanks Farm Market

Type: Vegetable farm and market

Directions: Exit 16 off 105 towards Seal Island, about 1/4 mi., take second street on right (King Grove Rd). Farm is 2 miles down the road on the left. Sign on end of driveway.

Hours: 9:00 am - 6:00 pm

Activities: Enjoy music, and a free Bounce Tent for kids. Enjoy mini petting zoo, mini village of 17 little houses and churches. Products for sale include a wide assortment of farm vegetables grown on the farm, fresh daily bakery products, sausages and hot dogs and lots more!

Farm: South Harbour Farm

Type: Organic Market Gardens

Directions: We are located near Cape North and Dingwall, at the top of the Cabot Trail, on the Shore Road overlooking South Harbour. Look for Farm Tours/Fresh Produce sign.

Hours: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Activities: Tour our three tiers of organic fruit, flower and vegetable gardens and wide variety of composting systems. Visit our Native shrub gallery and Celtic Tree Alphabet project, children's area with sunflower fort and pumpkin patch, chickens and chicken tractor. Easy half-kilometer trail through karst topography to a small beach.

Farm: Crown Jewel Resort Ranch

Type: Resort and ranch, where organic methods of food production are used. Horses do the heavier work, instead of tractors.

Directions: Take exit 9 on TransCanada. At the end of the ramp turn north west toward Big Baddeck. After 4km cross the green bridge over the Baddeck River. Immediately after the bridge turn to the right - W. Side Baddeck Road. After 4km you reach The Sheiling, The Cloisters and the barns of Crown Jewel.

Hours: 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Activities: We will have free hay rides running continuously during the event time.

Directions: We are halfway between Port Hood and Mabou, approx 8 min. on Rt 19. Turn onto Justin Road go 500m. See a red house and a red Commercial building on your left.

Activities: We will demonstrate the classic method of preserving fresh fruit into jam. We will demonstrate one flavor, but we have many more available in our gift shop.

Activities: Tour newly constructed dairy barn and milking facility. Visit the calves.

Directions: Heading East toward Antigonish, take exit 30 at James River Speedway, left over TCH, right on #4 Highway and travel 6kms, farm on left. Heading West out of Antigonish take exit 31A, Brierly Brook, travel 4kms, farm is on the right.

Hours: Noon to 5:00 pm

Activities: Come see the animals! Sheep, donkeys, horses, goats, rabbits and cats! Corn box with toys for the little ones. Wool shop featuring 100% virgin wool blankets, socks and more! New this year - "TAG A TREE" - select your tree from our home grown, cultivated lot, tag it and come back during the Christmas season for your freshly cut tree! Don't forget your camera. Admission is free, however, a donation to the Antigonish food bank is always welcome.

Activities: Learn about the gentle natured alpaca from South America. We have 100 alpacas, including 15 babies. Alpaca fleece and products for sale. Please leave your dogs at home!

Directions to farm: From Amherst: Rte 6 to Puwash/Wallace, go past Wallace approx 10 km, turn left onto Malagash Road (Jost Wine Barrel), follow signs for Jost Winery, at left turn for Jost go straight onto South Shore Road. Farm is approx 5 km on right. From Truro or Pictou: Go to Tatamagouche, follow signs for Wallace on Rte 6. Go past sign "County Cumberland" and take first right turn. Follow same directions as above for Malagash Road to farm.

Hours: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Activities: Tour of the farm, introduction to Alpacas and Shetland sheep, produce and wool/fibre products for sale (intro to production of yarn, differences between Alpaca and Shetland wool). Due to biosecurity and other issues, your pets can not be allowed on the farm.

Activities: Visit a living classroom to see demonstrations of different ways of growing crops using biodynamic principles. Find out about using rock circles, pyramid structures, dousing and more!

Type: Dairy farm. Milk 70 head of Holstein cows in a tie stall barn.

People will be able to see sustainable, environmentally friendly agriculture where the different animals are used to help each other and improve pasture. Visitors will be able to see Runner ducks, heritage turkeys, Dexter and Belted Galloway cattle, as well as three types of heritage breed, rare pigs- Tamworths, Berkshires and Large English Black. People will also be able to see our solar and wind powered cottage that is available for rent in our agritourism business. A dog agility trial will be held on the farm that day.

Directions: Take the 101 from Halifax to Exit 4 Ellershouse. At the end of the ramp go left, you are now on Hwy1. Follow taking the left to Brooklyn. Drive through Brooklyn staying right at the monument and drive up the hill. Take the left fork and the immediate right fork. You are now on the 215. Follow the 215 towards the Kempt shore (you are on the Glooscap trail). Armitage Rd is on the left in Lr. Burlington. As you turn in you will see Sorrel Ridge Craft on the right. Go to the end of the road, stay to the right, past a small white farm house on left, graveyard on right. We are on the cliff, #319 blue/grey farm house.

Meat products from the farm for sale (natural, free-range). 'Children's Games with Holly' in Poppies Park from 2-4. Wagon rides, weather permitting.

Activities: We offer free wagon rides around our orchards. Tour takes approx. 10 minutes. We also encourage free sampling all you can eat apples while U-picking.

Activities: Walk through unsprayed orchard and learn about innovative organic management strategies. This orchard is affectionately called the Python block. It requires no fossil fuel to produce the crop. For sale: unsprayed organic apples, Prima, Redfree, Novamac, Novaspy; organic sweet cider in 250 ml, 500 ml, 1 litre and 2 litre sizes; and frozen Suprima juice bars in 8 flavours, apple, cherry, strawberry, cranberry, red raspberry, kiwi, black raspberry and blueberry (Nova Scotia fruit is the only ingredient). Learn about Scottish Highland Cattle, Cotswold sheep, Berkshire pigs, Heritage turkeys and chickens as well as horses. Antique farm equipment display. There will be chuck wagon rides to the meadow provided by Evangeline trail rides for a free will offering. Corn boil and BBQ for a fee.
