Countless hours of effort on the part of many volunteers came to fruition Sept. 27 in Wolfville, (Nova Scotia) as the Acadia Community Farm hosted a harvest party.
Volunteers harvested a wide variety of produce from the plot of land donated by Acadia University near the dyke playing fields. Alex Redfield, one of the coordinators, said the project began last year as an initiative of the university's Student Environmental Organization and took on a life of its own.
Coordinator Hillary Barter said they donate fresh produce to the local food bank on a weekly basis during harvest season and raise funds to help support the garden by selling produce to the campus cafeteria.
They hosted six workshops over the summer and provided part-time work to a couple of students who help manage the project.
