[Sydney, NS]—NewPage Corp. has informed workers at one of its American mills that it will lay off about 10 per cent of its workforce, an online news report says.
The Mineral Daily News Tribune reported Friday (June 25) that under the company’s return to sustainable profitability initiative, workers of the Luke, Maryland, operation were informed of the reduction, which will affect both hourly and salaried employees.
The positions affected are to be announced by Aug. 2, with most of the cuts taking place by the end of the year.
It’s the major employer in the community.
NewPage also operates two paper machines at the mill in Point Tupper (Nova Scotia).
