[Malgash, NS] – Squishing grapes between your toes may not seem appealing but for the teams gathering at Jost Vineyards (in Malagash, Nova Scotia) on Saturday, (Sept. 22) it’ll all be worth it. 11 teams are gearing up to stomp some grapes and raise some money for their charities of choice.

“We’ve been doing it for 14 years now. The teams who signed up will let me know their charity that they’re stomping for,” said Karen Jost, the Stomp co-ordinator. “The winner is determined by how much juice they stomp out. Teams are competing against each other but they’re basically competing for the most weight. Competing against each other is a lot of fun and energizing.”

The team with the most juice will receive the top cash prize for their charity. All money won comes from the registration fees.

“I do offer prizes for second, third and fourth and sometimes down to fifth and sixth.”

Prizes are also awarded for best team costume. Past costumes included teams dressed up as Slapper Girls, the Trailer Park Boys and even Smurfs.

Visitors to the stomp will also be able to take a wine tour, tour the shops and enjoy some wine tasting. There will also be a barbecue provided by Takes Thyme Catering and musical entertainment will be provided by Artful Knave.

Students from Tatamagouche Elementary School will be collecting a $3 admission at the door. All the proceeds from admissions will go to their school.
