Jersey breeder George Brown passes away

George W. Brown of Harvey, York Co., New Brunswick passed away Feb. 15, 2012 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital.

Born at Harvey, NB in 1914, he was a son of the late G. Sterling and Mary Ann (Milligan) Brown.

Mr. Brown was a dairy farmer all his life. He was well known across North America for his Jersey cows. In 1994 he received the Master Breeder Award from Jersey Canada and in 2005, he was made Honorary Life Member of Jersey Canada. He served on the NB Breeding A-I Co-Op Sire Committee. He was a member of the United Church of Canada and former member of the Harvey Fire Department and Harvey School Board.

Mr. Brown is survived by a daughter, Mary Lou Beckett (Wayne), Fredericton, NB; a son, Stephen Brown, Harvey, NB; grandchildren, Ross Beckett, Samantha Brown and Stephanie Brown; great grandchildren, Riley, Kyle, Madison and Lucas; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Ida M. (Robison) Brown; sisters, Ida Swan and Vernice Maxwell; brothers, Stanley and Woodrow Brown.

His funeral service was held at St. Andrews United Church in Harvey on Feb. 21, 2012 with Rev. Kay Clowater officiating. Interment will be held later at Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were: Allison Gass, Tommy Swan, Brian Swan, Lawrence Swan, David Robison, Andrew Robison, John Robison, Larry Brown and Don Brown.
