There are those who bellyache and complain that something should be done, and then there are those who go out and do it.
Robin Gerow falls into the latter category, and we commend him for it.
Gerow has come up with a novel idea: an indoor skateboard park.
We think this is a spectacular idea, in large part because it addresses some of the more pressing problems with the outdoor skating park near the Art Hauser Centre.
One: it works when the weather does not.
Two: it's got all the trappings of an enterprise that will be under far better scrutiny.
Three: it gives another outlet for youth to hang about and engage in healthy physical activity.
Gerow could have fallen victim to the narrow thinking and assumed that all kids are nothing more then saggy-pant delinquents on the cusp of some major crime.
He hasn't. He's simply looked at a problem and offered a solution, one we're confident has all the makings of a successful solution at that.
Where others complained, Gerow has acted: this is excellent citizenship, pure and simple.
If more of us followed his lead, maybe there wouldn't be so many problems to complain about in the first place.
A novel lesson, that.
Hooray for those who act

You'll have to pardon my skepticism, but it's a great idea only IF the park is affordable to the average skateboarder and IF it's accessible to the average skateboarder.
We've had several great ideas in the past and they've turned out to be great only for those who can afford the high prices. The rest are left out in the cold.
